Brett Merritt is the Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel of Humphreys Capital.  In his role, Brett provides legal oversight, guidance, and support to the firm.  He is involved in every part of the investment process, including drafting and negotiating fund credit documents, purchase and sale agreements, and ancillary transaction documents. He also oversees all outside counsel engaged by the firm.  Brett is responsible for the firm’s compliance with all regulatory requirements as well as internal policies and procedures.

Brett joined Humphreys Capital in 2024 after serving as Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel of another private equity fund manager and working as attorney at the largest law firm in Oklahoma, McAfee & Taft, for nearly a decade.

Brett holds a Juris Doctorate, with highest honors, from the University of Oklahoma College of Law and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in economics and a minor in international business from Oklahoma State University.

Brett is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the National Society of Compliance Professionals. He also serves on the Board of Directors and Governance Committee of Wings Special Needs Community.

Brett and his wife, Rachel, have three children and reside in Edmond, Oklahoma.
